ABSTRACT
We performed an observational and analytical study in 55 patients with indication for colonoscopy in order to evaluate the diagnostic utility of the FICE system and chromoendoscopy for the detection of CCRT. Sensitivity and specificity is estimated using the Mc Nemar test, Epidat 3.1 and statistical package SPSS 11.5, with a significance level of p < 0.05. 30 patients were female and 25 male with an age range between 18 and 81 years (mean 59 years). Groups of 40 to 59 and 60 and over were the most impact. 25.5% of patients had a history of polyps, 20.0% history of previous polypectomy. Predominant change in bowel habits and rectal bleeding 25.5% of patients, abdominal pain in 20.0% and diarrhea to 18.2%. The sensitivity of FICE was 88.89%, specificity 65.26%, positive predictive value of 64.0% and negative 20.0%. The chromoendoscopy showed sensitivity 76.0%, specificity 92.31%, 95% positive predictive value and negative predictive value 66.67%. We conclude that the FICE system and chromoendoscopy with indigo carmine and methylene blue are effective in detecting colorectal cancer early.
