ABSTRACT
The convenience of reaming or not the medullary canal when inserting a nail is discussed, pointing out the indications and the disadvantages for each one of these procedures. Complications that erroneously have been associated with these procedures are mentioned and that rather are attributable to the technique with which the nail is inserted. It concludes that these do not have to be seen like antagonistic procedures, both are useful, but its indication in each particular case must be analyzed carefully to obtain better results.
