ABSTRACT
Introduction: In the last years a significant increase in the number of endoscopic surgery procedures has been observed in gynecology, for this reason we have reviewed in retrospective, all the cases of endoscopic surgery, that were made in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of the American British Cowdray Medical Center, in Mexico City.
Material and methods: The period of study was 10 years (from January 1988 to December 1997), with the object to know the epidemiology and morbidity of all these patients, of the present study.
Results: A total of 1,632 endoscopic surgeries were made, the main preoperative diagnosis were dysmenorrhea, pelvic chronic pain and infertility, all these were almost 70% of the total of patients. The main transoperatory finding was endometriosis (35%), follow by pelvic adherencies (24.6%). In 23.4% of all endoscopies, it was used electrocoagulation for endometriosis and in 22% adherenciolysis was made. It has been reported a total of 88 hysteroscopies, the most frequent pathology of these, were endometrial polyps and submucosal myomatosis. Almost half of all patients were in hospital for less than 24 hours. Complications were presented in 72 clinic cases (4.4%), in the first place was abdominal wall hemorrhage.
Conclusions: Gynecology endoscopic surgery has been the gold standar to treatment almost all gynecology pathologies and when it was made by diestrus personal and in adequate installations, complications were reduce to minimal cases.
