ABSTRACT
We describe our experience developing and implementing a study to evaluate deaths among pregnant, or recently pregnancy women, attributable to abortion and/or violence. We describe the specific activities needed to both formulate and implement the study. We discuss the ethical and methodological issues that must be considered when studying the sensitive and stigmatized themes of violence and abortion. We also describe the principal barriers encountered and examples of experiences in the field.
