ABSTRACT
The article describes various severe mental disorders not covered in other articles of this series. An abnormal mother-fetus interaction is one of the principal predictive factors of an eventual alteration in the parent-infant relationship. When the attitude of the mother to the pregnancy is one of rejection, is necessary to offer psychotherapeutic support. The addiction to substances is negative for the pregnancy and the fetus; for example, the offspring of alcoholic mothers frequently has low birth wight and other complications. Women addicted to narcotic have many emotional problems and their behavioral disturbances and to implement intervention strategies can improve these conditions and help the mothers carry out their maternal funtions.
