ABSTRACT
Objectives: Evaluate the efficacy of ondansetron
versus tropisetron in postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecistectomy.
Material and Methods: Forty patients ASA I and 2, electively scheduled for laparoscopic surgery were admitted in the study. Two groups were randomly assigned. First group patients received IV ondansetron (4 mg) preoperatively and then 4 mg every 8 hours during the first 24 hours. Patients in group two received IV tropisetron (5 mg) as a unique doses, just before the anesthetic procedure. We evaluated hemodynamic changes, type of surgery and PONV during the first 24 hours. Outcome of the patients were evaluated with VAS as respect the satisfaction or acceptance with the procedure. Collateral effects presence also was determinated.
Results: We found a great incidence of PONV in the first 8 to 12 hours in both groups; Group 1 (0) have the more incidence of nausea (
p ‹ 0.05) when compared with tropisetron group. No other significative differences were observed in the study and no side effects were presented.
Conclusions: IV ondansetron and tropisetron are a good alternative to control of PONV in laparoscopic surgery. We consider the dose of ondansetron must be increased in order to obtaining a better efficacy in the treatment of PONV.
