ABSTRACT
Objective: evaluate the effects of the metoclopramide on the propofol requirements during the induction of the general anesthesia.
Material and Methods: 50 patients of both sex between 18 and 60 years old, scheduled for elective surgery were studied. They were randomly assigned in two groups of 25 each one where the group 1 received metoclopramide-propofol and the group 2 saline solution (0.9% NaCl) - propofol (1 mL/seg). Latency (loss of palpebral response), and quantity of used inductor were registered. The arterial pressure and heart frequency were monitored before and after the induction.
Results: A significative difference (
p ‹ 0.006) was found between the dose required in group one respect control associated with and decrease of time of action from 53.8 to 55.1 seconds for the groups 1 and 2 respectively. Mean arterial pressure was significative different between groups (
p ‹ 0.001) after anesthesia induction.
Conclusions: Metoclopramide associated with propofol reduces the anesthesia induction dose with a more rapid induction time and minimal collateral effects.
