ABSTRACT
Due to its increasing incidence, the severe head injury is a serious public health problem, so the neurological intensive care units play an increasingly important role in order to reduce the high mortality and morbidity associated with this condition, in fact is the leading cause of death in children and young adults in developed countries and represents a major cause of mortality in Mexico. Of complications, intracranial hypertension is the most serious, because to cause severe disturbances in cerebral perfusion and herniation secondary. This paper provides an updated review of pathophysiological and therapeutic aspects of this important condition.
