ABSTRACT
Antecedents. The epilepsy is one of the most important neurological diseases.
It prevalence represents to 1.2 to 3% in different reports in Mexico
Objective. To identify the most affected group divided for age, the type of seizures, the risk factors and their prognosis in children with epilepsy.
Material and Methods. I studied 200 patients, under 16 years, of the neuropediatric external consultations with the epilepsy diagnosis (International League Against Epilepsy, ILAE 1981), The Febrile crises were excluded. The pursuit was of a year in the General Hospital of Zone No. 47 Of the Mexican Institute of the Social Security.
Results. Male sex was most affected; by age groups the suckling babies were the principal affected population. The physical exploration was normal in more than half of the cases. From the etiologic point of view the prenatal hypoxia was the most frequent cause and the generalized seizures predominated on the partials seizures. The control was good in 75% of the cases.
Conclusions. In this population the age more involved were nursing Childs, male sex were more prevalent, the generalized seizures are most frequent in relation to the partial, and in its majority they were symptomatic. In 75% of patients prognosis was good.
