ABSTRACT
Background: Microalbuminuria is considered a marker of endothelial dysfunction, as well as generalized vasculopathy, which can increase the atherogenic states.
Objective: To determinate if value of microalbuminuria is associated with severity of the acute coronary syndrome.
Material and methods: An analytical, cross-sectional study was made in the Internal Medicine Service, in Hospital General de Ticomán, that included a total of 40 patients with acute coronary syndrome, 20 with unstable angina and 20 with acute myocardial infarction. Patients had ischemic symptoms and ST elevation in at least two leads or new left bundle-branch block.
A urine sample was collected, at any time of the seven later days to acute coronary syndrome, and microalbuminuria levels were measured by dipstick. The statistical analyses were run on the software package SPSS v13 and included Student unpaired t test.
Results: An albuminuria of 45 ± 38 mg/L was present in subjects with unstable angina compared with 147 ± 131 mg/L of the acute myocardial infarction group (p = 0.002).
Conclusions: The microalbuminuria level is associated with the severity of acute coronary syndrome, observing more elevated values in acute myocardial infarction that those observed in unstable angina.
