ABSTRACT
Background: The goal of septoplasty is to align the septum in relation with the vertical plane and with the reminding nasal vault structures. Many techniques have been described with the purpose of correct nasal airflow and pressure, however, anyone has resulted effective at all.
Objective: To determine the clinical efficacy and safety of the three leaves septoplasty technique for the treatment of septal deviations.
Type of study: Quasiexperimental.
Results: Sixty-one patients with septal deviation were included, 72% female, mean age 28 years old (SD ± 13), who underwent to the three leaves septoplasty technique. The most common symptom was nasal obstruction. The predominant type of septal pathology was septal tilt deformity. The mean follow-up was 7.5 months (SD ± 1.3). In all cases the septal deviation was corrected, the symptoms disappear in 97% of the cases. No complications appeared. Any patient needed a secondary surgery.
Conclusions: The three leaves septoplasty technique is effective to correct most of septal deviations and constitutes a safety procedure; provides an excellent exposure and lack of complications.
