ABSTRACT
Purpose: To analyze the refractive errors in cataract surgery after previous corneal refractive surgery. Methods: Retrospective study of patients operated with phacoemulsification after having had corneal refractive surgery as radial keratotomy (RK) or laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). SRK II and SRK/T formulas were used to calculate the IOL and the keratometric values were obtained by topography. Finally the refractive errors were analyzed.
Results: 18 eyes of 13 patients were evaluated. 15 eyes (11 patients) post RK, and 3 eyes (2 patients) post LASIK. In the post RK group 2 eyes had a final refraction of emmetropia (13.3%); 3 eyes myopia (20%) –2.79D ± 0.593, and 10 eyes hyperopia (66.6%) +1.789 D ± 1.06. In the group of post LASIK the patients had a hyperopic refraction in 100% of cases (3 eyes) +3.03 D ± 0.83.
Conclusions: The use of SRK II formula and keratometric values by topography causes serious errors in IOL power calculation after refractive surgery. We concluded that the overestimation of corneal power by the topography was probably the main factor.
