ABSTRACT
Objective: To study
Candida sp in workers of a sewing factory in Puebla by testing sample scrapings of skin from their feet. The study was made during the period from January to July of 2006. Laboratory tests were performed by age group to determine those most frequently affected in order to identify the common factor.
Methods: We made an observational, prospective, transversal and descriptive study, using inquiry and prolective research. The population of this research was 109 workers, we made an inquiry about feet mycosis. Fifty six people met inclusion criterion, from whom a sample was taken and transported to the Mycology Laboratory of Medicine Faculty BUAP.
Results: 15 samples (26.7%) were positive to
Candida sp. (13 female and 2 male), and 41 samples (73.2%) presented dermatophyites growth (
T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes and
E. floccosum). In the macroscopic test we observed colonies of
Candida sp. of white color, white-yellow, soft consistency, plain, limited, creamy and opaque. In the microscopic test, yeast and blastospores were observed. The range of age of the population with feet candidosis was 31 to 40 years. The signs and symptoms in the feet more frequently shown were: humidity, maceration, blush, itch, zeal, pain and scrapes.
