ABSTRACT
A typical case of thyrotoxic paralysis is presented. The thyrotoxic paralysis (TP) is a rare and potentially lethal complication of hyperthyroidism. The incidence in Asian population (the most affected group) is 2%, in western countries including Mexico the real incidence is unknown, although the reports in the literature have increased recently. This complication is reversible and characterized by muscle paralysis and severe hypokalemia. The treatment of choice is the immediate therapy with potassium chloride supplementation, β-blockers and the definitive treatment of hyperthyroidism.REFERENCES
