ABSTRACT
Objective: Know the percentage of carotid restenosis post-endarterectomy and to analyze the factors of risk that favor it, in the hospital Lic. Adolfo López Mateos.
Background: The carotid restenosis is an entity to keep in later mind to endarterectomy. In pursuit with ultrasound doppler duplex incidences so high have been reported as 37%. The main cause in the first two later years to the surgery is the miointimal hyperplasy.
Method: Pursuit with ultrasound doppler duplex color of patient with carotid endarterectomy during a two years period, between March of 2003 and February of 2005, with evaluation of factors of risk for restenosis development.
Results: 30 patients, 14 men and 16 women, of those which 19 with arterial hypertension, 19 with diabetes mellitus, 14 with dislipidemy and 10 with smoked, as factors of risk later to the surgery. They were 3 restenosis, none of those which of high grade, without surgical reintervention. In the three cases the patients had diabetes mellitus and dislipidemy, only two with arterial hypertension and none smoked.
Conclusions: To the being a method non invasive and of easy accessibility in most of the hospital centers, the ultrasound doppler duplex color, is an important tool in the long term pursuit of the patients with carotid endarterectomy.
