ABSTRACT
Introduction: The image diagnosis has been the key of the urolithiasis evaluation since the discovery of X-rays. Several publications have proved the high sensibility of Computed Tomography for the detection of renal and ureteral stones.
Objective: To define the impact of Non-Contrast Helicoidal Computed Tomography (NCSCT) in the diagnosis and management of patients with renal colic that arrive from the Centro Médico ABC (ABC Medical Center) Emergency service.
Methodology: Study made in the period between May and July 2005. Questionnaires were applied in 34 patients referred to the imaging service with suspicion of renal colic. The diagnostic confidence level of the clinical doctors as well as the therapeutic plan before and after a SCT was prospectively asked.
Conclusion: The NCSCT should replace the Excretory Urography as the elected imaging method for the evaluation of patients with suspicion of renal lithiasis.
