ABSTRACT
In this review we analyse the currently available therapies for liver fibrosis induced by the hepatitis C virus. The present work is a review about the drugs employed at an experimental level and in the human beings for the treatment of chronic liver diseases in the last ten years. It also refers to the actual trends for solving this problem. The major obstacle to antifibrotic drug development is the slow evolution of fibrosis, which takes years or even decades in man. Recent insights into the molecular pathogenesis of hepatic fibrosis and the role of activated hepatic stellate cells provide hope for the future development of successful therapies.
