ABSTRACT
The video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has had a great advance for spine diseases, discal hernias, abscesses, tumor diseases and fragment compressions by fracture. All of them having the possibility to be treated endoscopically.
Nowadays, we still have the limitation to he equipped with an adequate instrumentation system, which could be placed by the same via in cases of corpectomies and for curves correction by anterior approach. So it was decided to design this system and to test in porcine models.
One hundred porcine models were used to carry out discectomies and corpectomies in one or two levels where fixation was by thoracoscopic approach. The results showed that this instrumentation system is useful and technically possible to handle by thoracoscopy, giving the opportunity to use it in patients with thoracic spine pathology.
