ABSTRACT
Introduction. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most frequent causes of consultation in child psychiatry. Objective: To determine the prevalence of the disorder over 4 years, and to establish comorbidity and demographic characteristics.
Materials and methods. Retrospective, descriptive and opened study in a psychiatric hospital by reviewing and directly analyzing the clinical records of paediatric patients attended from January 2003 to December 2006.
Results. The prevalence of the disorder in the period of study was 26.8% (CI of 95% 23.4-30.5%). Male sex was predominant. Oppositional defiant disorder is the more frequent comorbidity, but there are cases with multiple comorbidity. Most parents were married.
Conclusion. The results are similar to previous published results and useful for institutional statistics.
