ABSTRACT
Introduction: Electrodiagnosis is a branch of medicine which can provide hard data for the diagnosis of several disorders affecting the Nervous System at the Peripheral and Central levels. It is important that general practitioners as well as specialists know general aspects of electrodiagnosis, in order to be able to make clinical judgments about when and how the various modalities of neurophysiologic studies should be requested.
Objective: To briefly present the most relevant aspects of electrodiagnosis, the different modalities of neurophysiologic studies, their indications, and their clinical utility for the diagnosis. Emphasis is made on the most frequent disorders.
