ABSTRACT
Objectives: To know the most frequent gynecological pathology observed by hysteroscopy in the ABC Medical Center. To analyze the indications for hysteroscopy, its correlations, discoveries and pathological complications.
Material and methods: The study is retrospective, traverse, descriptive, and observational. Files were revised from July 1997 to June 2004 in patients that had hysteroscopy, for a total of 252 procedures. Observed variables were the age of the patient, preoperative diagnosis, hysteroscopic discoveries, and cytopatology. Also analyzed were length of hospitalization and complications.
Results: Of 252 procedures 32.9% corresponded to the age group from 30-34 years, with a range of from 16-72 years. Most common preoperative diagnosis was from secondary abnormal uterine bleeding to endometrial polyposis (35.7%). A total of seven (2.77%) complications were observed.
Conclusions: Hysteroscopy is an indispensable tool for diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of gynecological pathologies. It is a tool of necessity for daily work for the medical gynecological obstetrician.
