ABSTRACT
Syphilis is mainly a sexually-transmitted infection caused by Treponema pallidum that remains a significant public health issue worldwide, with an increasing incidence at a global level. This contributes to elevated rates of congenital syphilis in low- and middle-income countries and to the resurgence of the disease in high-income countries in recent years. However, the true disease burden of syphilis in pregnant women and congenital syphilis is uncertain. It is imperative to strengthen healthcare systems to ensure access to screening and treatment for all pregnant individuals, their children, and their sexual partners, as well as to boost surveillance networks to effectively address interventions in congenital syphilis.
