ABSTRACT
General objective: To determine the factors associated at the beginning of active sexual life in adolescents.
Material and methods: Cross-sectional, comparative study, sample of convenience of 100 students of high school who fulfilled the selection criteria, previous informed consent. The instrument, applied was divided in two parts, one that measures sociodemographics variables and another which measures information level on diseases of sexual transmission, beginning sexual life, number of sexual pairs, use of anticonceptives, during December 2004. Analysis univariate with square descriptive and bivaried statistic with chi, reason of prevalence, value of p 05 for significance statistical was performed.
Results: 57% of the students had an age between 16 to 17 years of age (average of 15.70 ± 0.92), the proportion by sex was of 1/1. 21% smokes, 2% has consumed drugs at some moment of their life. 75% of the students ingest spirits. Women had greater level of information on diseases sexual transmission diseases; 30% of the students had began active sexual life in proportion 1/1 by sex, of which 75% have had 2 pairs and more. Of those with active sexual life 66% use some contraceptive method. Associated factors for beginning of active sexual life, were ingesting spirits (3.8 IC 1.065- 7.2) and high socioeconomic level (1.79 IC 65 -4.80).
Conclusions: The adolescents who drink alcohol have 3.8 risk of initiating active sexual life earlier, similar to reported by other authors.
