ABSTRACT
Introduction: Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of high-grade glioma and accounts for 45.6% of primary malignant neoplasms of the central nervous system. Given its clinical-epidemiological characteristics and its high therapeutic resistance, the disease presents high morbidity and mortality.
Objective: To characterize patients with glioblastoma multiforme.
Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out with 34 patients diagnosed with glioblastoma treated at Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical-Surgical Hospital from January 2014 to March 2018.
Results: There was a predominance of male patients aged 50-59 years. Motor deficiency syndrome was the most frequent, accounting for 32.4% of the sample. The mean survival was 9.14 months.
Conclusions: The fifth decade of life, the male sex, the white race and motor deficiency as clinical manifestation are frequent variables in glioblastoma multiforme. Multimodality treatment associated with maximal safe resection is the therapeutic modality by means of which best survival outcomes are achieved in these patients.
