ABSTRACT
Smallpox appeared on earth several thousand years ago, and man has sought ways to protect himself against it. Various methods were applied, whether in India, China or the ottoman Empire, and it was at the end of the 18th century when Eduard Jenner discovered a new immunization method, which Francisco Xavier de Balmis transferred to America and the Philippines, in order to be able, after great efforts, to eliminate this danger in the 20th century.REFERENCES
