ABSTRACT
Rickettsiosis are diseases of worldwide distribution capable of producing severe and lethal conditions in the population,
with mortality rates that reach up to 30% in pediatric patients. They are produced by obligate intracellular
gram-negative coccobacilli, which have an animal reservoir and an arthropod vector such as ticks. The clinical
picture is characterized by high-grade fever, rash, myalgia, arthralgia, headache, and general malaise. The diagnosis
is mainly clinical confirmed by serology, immunofluorescence or PCR. The treatment of choice is tetracyclines. We
present a 14-year-old patient with general malaise, high-grade fever, headache, myalgia, arthralgia and a 10-day-old
rash with negative serology for dengue, a history of close contact with ticks, suspected of probable rickettsiosis at
least. Who received specific treatment with doxycycline presenting a favorable clinical evolution.
