ABSTRACT
Infections caused by anaerobic organisms or mixed infections with anaerobic participants are quite common and often serious. Appropriate treatments of these infections depend upon an understanding of the pathogens responsible. Unfortunately in clinical laboratories in our country are not well set up to carry out a good anaerobic work. They have problems in samples obtention and transportation and proper cultivation and identification also. One additional trouble is the extension of time taken for isolation of diverse components of mixed infections and obtention of pure cultures because the clinicians need to make prompt decisions regarding therapy for their patients.
The purpose of this paper is to present our experiences in culture of anaerobic organism from clinical specimens, mainly abscess contents, using simple methods available in any bacteriological laboratory.
The results obtained by us are shown in 3 different tables giving a particular interest in abscess producing organisms. Most of them are Gram negative bacillus as Bacteroides and Fusobacterium. Gram positive, as Peptostreptococcus and Actinomyces, were found also. Gemella morbillorum was reported in three cases.
