ABSTRACT
Background: Tinnitus affects the quality of life of patients, being sometimes mild
or catastrophic.
Objective: To determine if there is improvement in the results of the Tinnitus Handicap
Inventory Questionnaire after the use during 12 weeks of the mobile application
Whist Tinnitus Relief.
Materials and Methods: An analytical, prospective, longitudinal and quasiexperimental
study was done where patients were recruited from the Audiology and/
otológior
Otorhinolaryngology services with a diagnosis of chronic subjective tinnitus. The
data from the questionnaires were analyzed by means of the Student’s t test using the
means of the results of the questionnaires.
Results: The questionnaire was performed on 25 patients on 2 occasions, before and
after using the application Whist Tinnitus Relief. The average age was 48.2 years old,
the predominant sex was female with 17 patients. We found that before sound therapy
7/25 patients had a catastrophic degree of affection and at the end of the study only
2/25 patients remained in that grade. When comparing the means of all the patients
before versus after treatment using the Student’s t test, a p of 0.000006 was obtained,
being statistically significant.
Conclusions: It was shown that the use of sound therapy reduces the degree of
disability associated with tinnitus up to almost half of the patients who use it constantly,
without the risk of increasing the degree of impairment in their quality of life.
