Renal angiomyolipoma experience in the Hospital de Especialidades Centro Médico “La Raza”

ABSTRACT

The renal angiomyolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor with specific clinical and radiological features that an accurate preoperative diagnosis. Nowadays, the treatment is usually conservative leaving nefrectomy for cases with doubtful diagnosis, when the findings are in association with cancer of renal cells or when most of the renal parenchyma has been substituted by the tumor.
Objectives: We determined the frequency of renal angiomyolipoma in Centro Médico “La Raza”, preoperative diagnostic and the association with carcinoma of renal cells.
We review clinical and pathology files of Centro Médico “La Raza” IMSS of Mexico city from January 1989 to June 1999.
Outcome: We found 9 cases among 302 renal tumors (2.98%), the most common symptoms was pain (66%), tumor and hematuria in (33%) respectively. Preoperative diagnostic was found in 3 cases, the association with carcinoma of renal cells was not found.
