Síndrome de vena cava superior asociado a neoplasia. Consideraciones multidisciplinarias y tratamiento

RESUMEN
El síndrome de vena cava superior (SVCS) se presenta por una obstrucción de la vena cava superior que provoca un incremento de la presión venosa en vasos sanguíneos colaterales y conforme esta obstrucción avanza, se desarrolla un flujo sanguíneo colateral. Las neoplasias ocasionan cerca de 90% de los casos. Se recomienda realizar una historia clínica con atención en antecedentes de procedimientos invasivos, neoplasia y en la duración de los síntomas. La presentación clínica va a depender de la evolución de la neoplasia subyacente y por lo general encontramos edema de cara, cuello, tórax, extremidades superiores y red venosa colateral, seguido de disnea. El tratamiento y pronóstico depende de la histología, etapificación y tratamientos previos. En esta revisión nos enfocaremos en la etiología, fisiopatogenia, diagnóstico y tratamiento del SVCS asociado a neoplasia.
