Estandarización de RT-PCR en LCR de pacientes pediátricos con infección del sistema nervioso central por enterovirus

RESUMEN
Objetivo. Estandarizar la RT-PCR panviral en LCR y determinar
su aplicabilidad para detectar infección aguda por enterovirus
en el sistema nervioso central en menores de 15 años.
Material y métodos. Se realizó RT-PCR directamente en
muestras de LCR de diez pacientes pediátricos con sospecha de
infección del sistema nervioso central y en nueve con padecimientos
diferentes del sistema nervioso central.
Resultados.
El 80% (8/10) de las muestras fueron RT-PCR positivas para
enterovirus en los pacientes con sospecha de infección del sistema
nervioso central; ninguna muestra resultó positiva en
los pacientes con padecimientos diferentes.
Conclusiones. Ya
que los enterovirus se encuentran entre las principales etiologías
de encefalitis pediátrica, la RT-PCR podría ser particularmente
útil para su detección rápida en LCR.
