Efectos del tratamiento con radiocirugía y con acelerador lineal (LINAC) NOVALIS en los schwannomas vestibulares

RESUMEN
Introducción: La incidencia de los schwannomas es de 0.78 a 1.15 casos por cada 100,000 habitantes. Los principales síntomas incluyen deterioro auditivo, tinnitus y vértigo. Su progresión puede causar deterioro neurológico por efecto de masa y compresión del tallo cerebral y nervios craneales. La radiocirugía estereotáctica LINAC-NOVALIS es una alternativa para el tratamiento de este tipo de neoplasias.
Objetivo: Demostrar la eficacia del tratamiento con radiocirugía estereotáctica LINAC en pacientes con schwannomas vestibulares.
Método: Estudio prospectivo comparativo de 35 pacientes tratados con radiocirugía estereotáctica LINAC. Se efectuó volumetría y audiometría pre y post-radiación.
Resultados: Se estudiaron 35 pacientes, predominantemente mujeres (65.7%), con afección más frecuente en el oído izquierdo (57.1%). El volumen promedio de las lesiones disminuyó de 8.11 cm
3 a 8.05 cm
3, aunque no fue significativo. La capacidad auditiva no fue afectada significativamente (T de Wilcoxon con p = 0.05).
Conclusiones: La radiocirugía con LINAC-NOVALIS constituye una alternativa para el tratamiento de los schwannomas vestibulares conforme a estos hallazgos preliminares. Es recomendable dar continuidad a esta línea de investigación en futuras muestras poblacionales.
