Proteinuria

RESUMEN
La proteinuria describe una condición en la cual la orina contiene una cantidad aumentada de proteínas. Es un hallazgo relativamente frecuente en los adultos en consulta externa que se presenta por una alteración en la barrera de filtración glomerular que deja escapar las proteínas hacia la orina. La proteinuria puede ser una manifestación de una enfermedad renal crónica como de una causa benigna como la fiebre, el ejercicio intenso, la deshidratación y algunas enfermedades agudas. La proteinuria se clasifica en tres categorías dependiendo del origen de la patología y de las proteínas excretadas en la orina: proteinuria glomerular, proteinuria tubular y proteinuria por sobreflujo. En el presente módulo se describen las principales causas de proteinuria, las enfermedades asociadas a esta entidad y los exámenes de laboratorio iniciales que permitan clasificar a los pacientes. Por último se presenta un algoritmo para la evaluación del paciente con esta condición.
