Estado actual de las vacunas contra el Dengue. Perspectivas

RESUMEN
El dengue continúa extendiéndose más allá de las regiones tropicales y subtropicales y se ha convertido en un problema creciente de Salud Pública en las áreas endémicas, con un aumento importante en la incidencia y en la mortalidad. Las medidas de control no han logrado ser suficientes, y no se dispone de medidas específicas de tratamiento y prevención. En las últimas décadas se han hecho avances en el diseño de vacunas contra el dengue, con tecnologías innovadoras. La mayoría de estas vacunas se encuentra en etapas pre-clínicas del desarrollo y sólo algunas han alcanzado las fases clínicas, con resultados prometedores. Se espera poder contar en un futuro cercano con una vacuna contra el dengue, que complemente las estrategias existentes de control de esta enfermedad. Esta es una revisión del estado actual de las vacunas en desarrollo. Además, se incluye información sobre los lineamientos que la OMS ha coordinado para la realización de ensayos clínicos y aspectos regulatorios a considerar para el registro futuro de estas vacunas contra el dengue.
