RESUMEN
La enfermedad de Marek es causada por un virus herpes oncogénico altamente contagioso asociado a células. El presente trabajo cubre los puntos más importantes de la enfermedad de Marek, causante de importantes problemas en todo el mundo. A pesar de que existen diversos programas de vacunación para disminuir los daños causados por esta enfermedad, existen cepas altamente virulentas que pueden evadir esta protección. La búsqueda de vacunas mejoradas que se adelanten a cambios de los virus de campo continuará, pero no se debe confiar solamente en la vacunación. La resistencia genética, un mayor conocimiento del virus y del sistema inmune del ave pueden ser la base de la prevención de esta enfermedad.
