Impacto de las estatinas en el periodo perioperatorio

RESUMEN
Los eventos cardiovasculares son la principal complicación en el periodo perioperatorio. Las estatinas son el fármaco de elección en la prevención primaria y secundaria de patologías a nivel cardiovascular por su efecto hipolipemiante; sin embargo, sus beneficios van más allá debido a sus efectos pleiotrópicos en la modulación de la tríada patológica entre inflamación, obstrucción dinámica y trombosis en el perioperatorio. Estos efectos se han demostrado en estudios clínicos realizados en cirugía vascular no cardiaca, cirugía no cardiaca mayor, cirugía cardiovascular y cirugía cardiaca, reduciendo la incidencia de complicaciones. En conclusión, la implementación de la terapia con estatinas en el periodo perioperatorio reduce de manera significativa la morbimortalidad a corto y mediano plazo.
