Factores de riesgo asociados con infertilidad femenina

RESUMEN

Antecedentes: la incidencia de infertilidad sigue aumentando en todo el mundo, entre 10 y 20%. Se reportan diversos factores de riesgo asociados con la infertilidad femenina.
Objetivo: identificar los factores de riesgo asociados, en forma significativa, con infertilidad femenina.
Material y métodos: se realizó un estudio de casos y controles en el que se incluyeron 440 pacientes divididas en dos grupos: 220 mujeres con diagnóstico de infertilidad primaria o secundaria (casos) y 220 mujeres fértiles en etapa de puerperio mediato (controles). Se analizaron 20 factores de riesgo sociodemográficos y clínicos asociados con infertilidad femenina. El análisis estadístico se efectuó mediante porcentajes, media aritmética, error estándar, prueba de la t de Student y χ2. Se asignó un valor alfa de 0.05.
Resultados: se encontraron seis factores de riesgo con significación estadística: edad avanzada (p ‹ 0.001), ingresos mensuales altos (p = 0.004), índice de masa corporal elevado (p ‹ 0.001), edad de inicio de la vida sexual activa (p ‹ 0.001), antecedente de intervención quirúrgica pélvica (p ‹ 0.001) y estrés (p ‹ 0.001). El tabaquismo, la quimioterapia, radioterapia, enfermedad pélvica inflamatoria, el ejercicio, uso de anticonceptivos, consumo de alcohol, cafeína, solventes, pegamentos e insecticidas no fueron significativos.
Conclusiones: existen factores de riesgo asociados con infertilidad femenina. La identificación de estos factores en la vida reproductiva disminuirá la frecuencia de infertilidad en gran medida y evitará sus consecuencias.
