Estudio antropométrico del componente dentogingival en dientes anteriores superiores. I. Exposición coronal

RESUMEN
Este es un reporte sobre exposición dental (corona clínica) con información sustraída de una base de datos maestra de un estudio antropométrico sobre el componente dentogingival, realizado en 151 individuos mexicanos de ambos sexos entre 15 y 29 años. Al describir el tamaño de la corona clínica, se involucran de un lado aspectos morfológicos de la corona dental misma, y por el otro, la extensión de la cobertura por tejidos gingivales, pudiendo ambos aspectos anatómicos ser dependientes de condiciones genéticas y ambientales, lo que puede redundar en la posible observación de diferencias de tipo individual, por género y por grupo étnico. El tamaño y el aspecto coronal no sólo involucran parámetros objetivos como las medidas lineales y las proporcionales (radio); también están involucradas apreciaciones subjetivas y referencias temporales como la estética, representada por lo que en un momento es placentero o desagradable. Lo anterior establece un reto demandante, a la vez que enriquecedor, para el clínico que debe atender por diversas razones la región dental anterosuperior de los pacientes. En este reporte sobre exposición coronal serán presentados y discutidos los tamaños dentales observables (clínicos) por largo (L) y ancho (A) y los radios L-A de los dientes centrales, laterales y caninos superiores y su cobertura por tipo gingival y sus posibles diferencias por género en población mestiza mexicana de la zona central del país. Estos datos irrefutablemente son apreciables para la toma de decisiones en odontología, particularmente en áreas como periodoncia, ortodoncia y prótesis.
