Prevalencia de alteraciones cognitivas en pacientes con VIH/SIDA en una cohorte mexicana

RESUMEN
Antecedentes: las alteraciones cognitivas asociadas con el VIH provocan déficit adquirido de habilidades cognitivas combinadas que pueden incluir: función motora, comportamiento y cognición, lo que contribuye al aumento de la morbilidad de la infección por VIH y es un importante factor de riesgo de mortalidad.
Material y método: encuesta prospectiva realizada en el Hospital General de Zona número 11 del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social con la población de pacientes que acuden a la consulta externa de infectología con el diagnóstico de VIH/SIDA. Se utilizó el Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) para identificar las alteraciones neurológicas encontradas en esta cohorte.
Resultados: se entrevistaron 119 pacientes, de los que 91 fueron de género masculino y 28 del femenino. La edad promedio en años al momento del estudio fue de 39.21 ± 10.3 y el tiempo de tratamiento en meses de 63.63 ± 38.89. El 66% de los pacientes encuestados tenia una capacidad cognitiva normal, en 22% había una sospecha de afectación y 11% cursaba con deterioro cognitivo. No se reportó caso alguno de demencia.
Conclusiones: con base en el MMSE 66% de nuestra población tiene capacidad cognitiva normal, el resto cursa con sospecha de afectación o deterioro cognitivo comprobado.
