Utilidad de la radiofrecuencia en el tratamiento de las venas varicosas primarias

RESUMEN
Introducción: El propósito del presente estudio es determinar la eficacia, seguridad y la recuperación postoperatoria de un grupo de enfermos con várices primarias de los miembros inferiores, tratados con radiofrecuencia.
Material y métodos: De noviembre de 2006 a julio del 2009 se trataron 108 extremidades inferiores en 54 enfermos con várices sintomáticas primarias; 39 del sexo femenino y 15 del sexo masculino, con un promedio de edad de 42 ° 6 años. En cada enfermo se determinó en el preoperatorio por ultrasonido-Doppler la permeabilidad, competencia de los sistemas venosos profundos, la localización de los sitios de reflujo y el diámetro de las venas safenas tratadas. En el postoperatorio se realizaron controles ultrasonográficos, a las 72 horas, 6 meses y 12 meses.
Resultados: Los resultados se presentan siguiendo los estándares recomendados por el Foro Venoso Americano y la Sociedad Internacional de Radiología. A 6 meses, se logró el cierre permanente de las venas tratadas en el 98% de los casos; en uno de ellos (1.85%), hubo recanalización completa de la vena safena interna asociada a várices recurrentes. No existieron complicaciones postoperatorias, la recuperación postoperatoria promedio fue de 1.14 días.
Conclusiones: La radiofrecuencia constituye en el mediano plazo una alternativa eficaz, segura y con tiempos de recuperación menores, para el tratamiento de las várices primarias de los miembros inferiores.
