RESUMEN
Las concentraciones séricas de creatinina son el marcador diagnóstico más utilizado para el avalúo clínico de la medición del índice de filtración glomerular (IFG); sin embargo, tienen una serie de factores no renales que influyen en su producción, por ejemplo: masa muscular e ingesta de proteínas, además de que existen diversas dificultades para su análisis. La medición sérica de cistatina C ha sido propuesta como un marcador simple, fiable y exacto del índice de filtración glomerular.
