Incontinencia urinaria en el adulto mayor

RESUMEN
La incontinencia urinaria es uno de los síndromes geriátricos cardinales; representa gran impacto en la salud y calidad de vida del anciano y la gente con quien éste convive. Su etiología es multifactorial e intervienen factores físicos, cognitivos, funcionales y psicosociales. En la mayoría de los pacientes, una historia clínica y un buen examen médico bastan para el diagnóstico, requiriendo estudios de gabinete más complejos únicamente para la confirmación y clasificación de la misma. Es de suma importancia para todo médico de adultos el conocimiento de las nuevas opciones terapéuticas, ahora disponibles para el mejor manejo de nuestros pacientes.
