Tabaquismo y diabetes

RESUMEN
La nicotina, una de las drogas que contiene el tabaco, es una de las sustancias más adictivas que se conocen; entre otros efectos, participa en la producción de neoplasias malignas de pulmón, boca, garganta y vejiga. También eleva los niveles de colesterol y glucosa, lo que puede resultar en mayores posibilidades de padecer Diabetes mellitus y en descontrol metabólico de la enfermedad.
El tabaquismo incrementa la severidad y frecuencia de las complicaciones micro y macrovasculares de los pacientes con diabetes que tienen mayor dependencia del tabaco y tres veces más probabilidades de morir de enfermedades cardiovasculares.
