Contaminantes emergentes en México: panorama actual, retos y una posible solución biotecnológica

RESUMEN
La concentración poblacional al realizar un consumo intensivo de diferentes productos genera un aumento en los desechos de
diversa naturaleza química, que en contacto con el medio ambiente son nocivos para la salud, desconociéndose en su totalidad el
daño que causan, como es el caso de los contaminantes emergentes o microcontaminantes que no están regulados. Típicamente
se acumulan en cuerpos de agua, en concentraciones tan bajas como ng/L y provienen de productos que utilizamos en nuestra
vida cotidiana, como los de cuidado personal (shampoo, pasta de dientes, jabón), fármacos (antibióticos, analgésicos, hormonas),
detergentes, plastificantes, entre otros. En esta revisión analizamos la situación de los contaminantes emergentes en México, en
términos de su presencia, detección, la eficiencia de su remoción en las plantas de tratamiento y legislación; además del potencial
uso de enzimas oxidoreductasas como una alternativa biotecnológica para la degradación de los mismos.
