ABSTRACT
Introduction: suicidal conduct is defined as any act committed in perjury by someone who is executed, with different degrees of lethal intent, including suicidal intent and consummated suicide.
Objective: to describe the behavior of suicidal behavior in patients who were seen at the Policlínico Mental Health consultation.
Method: the studio universe represents the 63 people who performed some suicidal conduct. The subjects were classified according to age, sex, occupation, origin and method applied. The information was collected from the statistics department of the polyclinic and was stored on a data base created in effect. The results were expressed in percentages and absolute values.
Results: the intent was more frequent in young women who fundamentally implemented the ingestion of tablets and suicide in adult men using hard methods. Concerning the occupation, it is evident that suicide attempts are more frequent among students and housekeepers, and the consummated suicide occurred in greater part by unemployed people. Suicidal conduct prevailed in the countryside.
Conclusions: the suicide attempt is more frequent in women aged 15 to 19 years and the consummated suicide prevails in the larger men of 25 years. The students and the housekeepers focused on the suicide attempt, and the consummated suicide occurred in the largest city due to unemployment. The largest portion of people of both intent and suicide comes from the rural area. The ingestion of tablets was the most used method for suicidal intent, but for consummated suicide “hard” methods such as burning with alcohol, harming and summing up in a cistern were used.
