Cyberbullying and suicidal ideation in middle school students, describing phenomenon in Hermosillo, Sonora

ABSTRACT

Around 1.2 millions of teenagers die, globally, due to preventable causes. Depression is the first cause of morbidity and dissability in this group. Cyberbullying occcurs when electronic media is used to bully others. It has singular traits that could lead to major impact on teen’s mental health. This study aims to determinate ciberbullying characteristics on an Hermosillo Sonora students simple. We studied a group of 75 individuals on public middle schools, and used a virtual instrument to evaluate ciberbullying and suicidal ideation phenomena among them. We determinated that 11% had suicidal ideation; and 16% were at risk for suicidality. On the other hand, 24% of participants were victimized by ciberbullying and 76% had agressive behaviors on this subject.
