Determination of the psychological profile in breast cancer patients at

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast cancer is a disease with significant psychological implications for women, such as behavioral disorders and dramatic lifestyle changes; so, there has been a growing interest in the psychological treatment of cancer over the last years.Objectives: To determine some aspects of the psychological profile in breast cancer patients at José Martí Polyclinic from Gibara municipality.
Method: A quantitative descriptive case series study conducted in November 2018, at the health area of José Martí polyclinic from the Municipality of Gibara, Cuba, with a population of 26 and a sample of 23 women who met the criteria for inclusion, exclusion and departure. Surveys and instruments were applied to evaluate stress, lifestyle, anxiety, personality traits, patient-disease relationship and coping strategies of these patients.
Results: It was found that 11 patients (69.6%), had an inadequate relationship with the disease; 11 (43%), showed Type C personality and 17 (73.7%), compulsive clinical features with marked or pathological hysteria; 100% of those vulnerable to stress had inadequate lifestyles; 22 (95.7%), with neurotic functioning level and 13 (56.5%), with an emotion-driven coping style.
Conclusions: An inadequate relationship with the disease, type C personality, obsessive and hysterical traits, inappropriate lifestyle in patients vulnerable to stress, neurotic functioning level and emotion-centered coping, predominated.
