ABSTRACT
The platelets are anucleated blood cells, participate in vascular hemostasis, inflammation
and the defense against pathogens; have complex signaling intracellular cascades
that can be activated by physiological molecules from the membrane localized
receptors. Intracellular signaling can also be regulated by reactive oxygen species
production. This review summarizes information about the intraplaquetary reactive
oxygen species production, its role in platelet activation and in pro-thrombotic states
and the antioxidant enzymes that modulate their bioavailability.
