ABSTRACT
The understanding of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not only as the absence of disease and illness; The extraordinary development of new pharmacological products and health technology have led to interest in the measurement of quality of life. Urinary incontinence constitutes a health problem that deteriorates the quality of life, limits autonomy and has repercussions in the psychosocial, work, affective and sexual spheres. Like many other conditions, it causes physical and mental suffering in those who suffer from it.. Document content analysis was performed, which included original and review articles published in the period between 2004 and 2019. A search of the Pubmed, SciELO, Hinari, Cochrane and Clinical databases was performed. using the keywords: health-related quality of life; quality of life questionnaires; urinary incontinence. Fifty articles were identified and reviewed, of which 22 were useful, as well as textbooks, monographs from various magazines and doctoral theses that allowed the logical historical analysis of the evolution of the definition. Urinary incontinence significantly affects the quality of life, causing suffering, anxiety, and depression. In addition, it limits the social, emotional and sexual sphere of the woman who suffers from it.REFERENCES
