ABSTRACT
Acute monoarthritis consists of the presence of inflammatory signs in a single joint. This pathology represents 80% of the cases of demand for general medical care and rheumatology for acute joint pain. This condition has a very wide etiology, the most prevalent being caused by intra-articular microcrystalline deposits, followed by septic arthritis, the quality being determined as a rheumatological emergency due to high morbidity and mortality. It should be borne in mind that monoarthritis may be the start of early forms of systemic disease. The diagnostic approach is carried out by means of a detailed medical history, focused on inherited family history, personal pathology, and a thorough physical examination, complementary studies that confirm the diagnostic suspicion and help to corroborate the presence of true monoarthritis and no other pathology that can simulate it. Of these complementary studies, the most relevant is the study of synovial fluid. Because the etiopathogenesis of this disease is very broad, it must be emphasized that the treatment is individualized, added to several general measures such as joint rest and anti-inflammatory medicine initially. Emphasis is placed on septic arthritis, where an effective and early therapeutic approach is essential to avoid complications.
